ACMI recently had an exhibition on called Star Voyager: Exploring Space on Screen a couple of months ago which I went to check out. The most interesting display (for me) were the 19th century hand painted magic lanterns slides. These magic lanterns are “image projectors that use a concave mirror to project light through a slide with an image on it, creating an enlarged version of the original image on screen”.
